Amphetamines are a class of banned drugs that have surprisingly been in circulation around the world for as long as modern medicine has existed. The drug has potent stimulant effects on the psyche. The system that is responsible for the feeling of euphoria consists of chemicals like norepinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine. In fact, many anti-depressant medications act on these naturally occurring chemicals by inhibiting their reuptake. This basically means that when a nerve tries to fire out these chemicals from the synaptic cleft, it is blocked. This allows the neurotransmitter to stay in the nerve for much longer and it is this effect that causes the feeling of euphoria. Amphetamines work on one of these neurotransmitters called dopamine increasing the amount that is available in the nerve. The exact reason why it works selectively one some nerves but not others is not completely understood but enough about the drug is known to have to ban it altogether.

Amphetamine testing is something that is asked for by taking a urine or blood sample. While the original drug won’t exist in the body after sometime, the after effects of metabolizing amphetamines will cause some byproducts to remain in the body. There is no way that you can actually fool the test except for drinking so much water that the amount of amphetamine that is excreted from the body, making it tough to trace. This is a popular technique that is also so old that it is quite lame and most modern equipment is able to identify a person who has been on speed or some kind of banned substance. The use of these drugs over a period of time will take a serious toll on the body.
