Home Syphilis Testing
Syphilis is a common sexually transmitted disease. It is a contagious disease and is easily spread through sexual contact between an infected person and an uninfected partner. Syphilis is also easily transmitted through kissing if an infected individual has a chancre in the mouth. A chancre is a highly contagious ulcer that grows on the body of an individual who is infected with syphilis. It may be anywhere in the body but is commonly found in the oral cavity or in the groin area. Syphilis is a disease that is brought about by a
bacterial infection.
It is therefore treated with antibiotic medication and is curable if it is treated in a timely fashion. A person who has tested positive for syphilis should refrain from physical or sexual contact with those around to avoid the spread of the disease. A failure to treat syphilis in time is likely to cause it to spread to other parts of the body by which time it becomes a more serious and complicated illness. It is even possible for death to occur as a result of the spread of syphilis to vital organs like the brain and heart.
Modern medical advances have allowed the development of a
home syphilis test
which can be administered easily and quickly. The home syphilis test is not a substitute for the testing conducted in a laboratory but it could be used to clear any doubts of infection in a person who in any case is suffering from no symptoms. The home syphilis test is also likely to indicate a positive infection in someone who has symptoms of the condition. The home syphilis test is usually supplied with a pair of
testing strips
so that people use it to test themselves. The home syphilis test is often preferred by individuals who wish to be discreet about themselves because of the stigma attached to having a sexually transmitted disease, even one that is easily curable like syphilis. Others may want to test themselves without the knowledge of their partner and may use a rapid home syphilis test to do this. The home syphilis test uses a pin-prick to draw a small sample of blood which is placed on the reactive area of the test strip. The reagent is then added to the blood and it is allowed to remain there for a few minutes until the desired reaction occurs. Based on the information on the packaging of the test, the reaction can be used to determine whether the person is infected with syphilis or not.
