Low Body Temperature After Fever
Submitted by Nick on December 16, 2010
Fever is a condition where the set temperature of the body rises in response to the presence of some illness or infection within the body. Normally, the body attempts to regulate its own temperature around 98 degrees Fahrenheit. However, when the infection or illness comes into the picture, the temperature will be higher. Some cases of fever report temperatures up to 104 degrees Fahrenheit. Any temperature above this level is considered to be an emergency condition. Many infections tend to be comfortable within the body if the body temperature remains normal around 98.6 degrees. When the temperature rises, it is actually the body fighting against these infections. This is a favorable condition for the individual, because it indicates that the body is fighting the infection effectively. Many people consider fever to be the problem when it is actually a symptom and a solution for the infection that is affecting the patient.
Low
body temperature
is defined as any temperature that is below 97.5 degrees Fahrenheit. Many individuals may reach this body temperature while they are deep in sleep. However, few people go below this level significantly. Chronic temperature below 97.5 degrees is considered to be a sign of low body temperature.
Low body temperature during fever
does often occur for short periods of time. When an individual suffers from fever, doctors often prescribe antibiotic medications. These, and other medications, may help to lower the body temperature to normal. At this stage, the body itself is also trying to cool down. This may lead to a sudden drop in temperature below normal. This is the reason why some people experience low body temperature during fever. A situation of low body temperature after fever may also be considered normal under certain circumstances.
Low body temperature after fever may happen if the course of antibiotics is continuing. Another factor associated with low body temperature after fever is the lack of energy that an individual may suffer from, particularly if the fever has lasted for long and has drained the body considerably. This means that for a few days, the individual will suffer from low body temperature after fever. During this time, warm clothing and warm liquids can be consumed to help maintain the body temperature. A visit to the doctor should be mandatory, just in case there is any complication associated with the individual’s condition. Low body temperature after fever should not be a cause for concern as long as it abates within four or five days.
