Uterus Test
Submitted by Nic on March 25, 2011
The uterus or the womb is the part of the female reproductive system within which the fetus implants itself and develops. The uterus has a lining which develops through each menstrual cycle and which is disposed of at the beginning of each new cycle. This development and disposal of the uterus ensures that the woman’s body is ready to host a fertilized egg at least once every menstrual cycle. The bleeding that is associated with menstruation takes place from the uterus itself.
A
uterus test
is a test used to determine the health and physical condition of the uterus. A uterus test may be used to check for abnormalities or for diseases and infections. This uterus test may be conducted on women who are having trouble with pregnancy. This type of test is often known as the uterus test for fertility. The uterus may also be examined as part of pregnancy assessment, particularly when the woman is being examined to check if she is pregnant or not. Finally, a uterus test may be conducted to check for uterine cancer, which is a type of cancer that develops in the uterus. A woman’s uterus may also be tested for abnormalities such as fibroids. The nature of the suspected condition is important when one discusses what type of uterus test is being performed. If the condition is associated with cancer, the woman may undergo a
uterus cancer test
which includes a
uterus test with endometrial biopsy
. The endometrial lining is the lining that surrounds the inner surface of the uterus which is responsible for providing shelter and nutrition to a newly fertilized egg if it implants there. Uterine cancer is a type of cancer that develops in the uterus. The
symptoms
of this condition include unexplained spotting and bleeding, particularly if the lining of the uterus becomes affected by the cancer.
The
uterus test procedure
is similar to other gynecological examinations. The woman needs to lie on a specialized examination chair with her legs in stirrups. This allows the doctor access to the vagina and through it to the uterus. When it comes to the uterus test and endometrial biopsy, the device used to collect a sample of the endometrial tissue needs to be inserted through the vagina. Women who have children or who do not wish to have more children may be advised to have their uterus removed if they are suffering from uterus cancer. This depends on the severity of the condition and on the judgment of the doctor.
