Elisa Allergy Testing
There are many different physiological effects that are triggered off in the body, in the event of an allergy. The reactions which are due to allergies trigger off mild to severe symptoms and may eventually lead to a life threatening condition known as anaphylaxis. These reactions are considered to be immunological and therefore involve the various immunoglobulins in the body. It is believed that the IgE, IgA, and the IgG are all responsible for the adverse reactions caused by allergies.
An Elisa test may therefore be used to test the antibodies present in the body against a possible food allergy. The Elisa food allergy test makes use of the standard Elisa testing procedure. Though there are several methodologies which can be used to identify the specific food allergies, it is a good idea to use the Elisa tests. This is because Elisa allergy testing method, although not very reliable, is very economical and easily available.
Elisa Food Allergy Testing
Today,
Elisa food allergy testing
is available in a number of laboratories and there are numerous food allergens that can be identified using this method. Elisa testing for food allergies also gives results very quickly. It is believed that if there are high levels of IgG antibodies circulating in the blood, they can be correlated with the signs and symptoms of food allergies.
With the help of these tests, physicians can pinpoint the specific allergies so that in future, the patient can take care and avoid the specific allergy causing foods. The test procedure involves a 96 well plate, which is coated with suspected food antigen. The patient’s sera, thus collected through a blood sample, is then added to this plate and the chemical reactions are observed. The lab technician studies the plate to see the classic antigen-antibody interactions.
The IgG Elisa allergy tests are increasingly finding their place among the food allergy panels. While sometime back it used to be difficult to identify the exact foods to which a person was allergic, with the help of the Elisa allergy blood test, finding the exact causes of food allergies have become simpler. This method is easier and convenient both for the physician and the patient, who doesn’t have to wait long to obtain the results. The patient now has to submit only one blood sample for the entire test to be performed, whereas earlier, for testing against each allergy, the patient has to give a fresh blood sample.
