Breast Enlargement Surgery

Submitted by Nic on October 11, 2011

Breast enlargement surgery is a cosmetic surgery where implants are inserted into women’s breasts to make them bigger. The implant inserted is usually a saline or a silicon implant.

Most often a cosmetic surgery, women often do these augmentation surgeries in order to feel better about their bodies. Doctors suggest what size they can go up to and how to position the implant so as to leave as few scars as possible. These surgeries have been around for almost four decades now and the breasts surgery risks are not as much as they earlier used be. There have been some research studies that show a potential threat for cancer with silicone implants but this has not been conclusively proven. Some woman occasionally have the breast implants removed either because they also run the risk of developing leaks. Due to such incidents, sometimes the pouches used as implants are also injected with polypropylene string or soy oil but this has not gained much popularity. There are also some local and short term complications like skin irritation, skin discoloration, infection, back pain, chronic breast pain, painfully sensitive nipples or complete loss of sensitivity around the nipples. These implants are not meant to last and you might be required to get a follow-up surgery which is an additional risk as these surgeries are major surgeries. Once you get an implant, you are most likely going to need another surgery, to remove this implant or replace it with another.

Breast Enlargement Surgery Cost

The breast enlargement surgery cost tends to vary from country to country. As it comes under cosmetic surgery, it is usually not covered by insurance. In the United States of America, it is generally quite steep. Breast enlargement surgery prices can start as low as $150 and can go up to any amount. It depends on who is doing the procedure, how much of an enlargement you want and if it is not your first surgery, it might even cost more. The surgery is done with a general anesthesia so that is an additional cost in the price of the breast enlargement surgery. Cost of the surgery may increase even further if you require a breast lift. You might be advised to get a breast lift after the pregnancy. You can also get breast enlargement surgeries in countries where it might be cheaper. But the medical care and treatment in such countries needs to be considered carefully.
