Side Effects Of Breast Implants

The female breasts are designed for the purpose of producing milk for the new born baby. This primary function is carried out only a few times during the life of the woman. The female breasts are also considered to be a key factor in determining the physical appearance of a woman. Most women have adequately sized breasts but some women feel that their breasts are too small. The desire to appear more attractive may drive such women to seek plastic surgery in the form of breast implants. The commonly held belief is that a woman with a larger bust will attract more attention from the opposite sex and be more successful in life.

The breast implant procedure is relatively short. It takes just a few hours to complete. The implants, usually silicone or saline fluid based, are placed in between the tissue of the breasts either behind the glands of the breast or behind the chest muscle that is directly behind the breast. The insertion of such an implant immediately raises the breasts and makes them appear larger and also less sagging. This instant solution offered by breast implants is what is making them more and more popular.

However, one should understand the possible side effects of having breast implants. There are a few breast implants side effects that are mentioned here. Primarily, the use of implants could make the breast sore to touch or could even make the breasts lose their sensitivity. For many couples, the breasts are effective for arousing the woman during sexual activity. Many patients report a lack of arousal from the breasts after an implant procedure has been performed. Another of breast implants side effects is related to the detection of breast cancer. The insertion of an implant affects the results of traditional imaging techniques and manual breast examination techniques.

This could lead to an abnormal tumor being missed or ignored for a long period of time until the cancer has reached an advanced stage. Another complication associated with breast implants is that of implant rupture. It is possible for the implant to rupture within the body which coudl cause significant discomfort and a deformity to occur in the shape of the breasts. Finally, another of the breast implants side effects is that of the capsular contracture where the immune system squeezes the implant and builds a wall around it as it rejects the implant. This can lead to pain, implant distortion and rupture of the implant itself.
