Urine is a waste product produced in the body. It is useful for the body to regulate its fluid levels. Toxic substances from the body and waste substances are eliminated through urine. The filtration of these toxic substances takes place in the kidneys. The eliminated toxins along with some water and other waste products are stored in the urinary bladder. When the bladder becomes full, the person feels the urge to urinate. Urination occurs when the sphincter muscle at the base of the bladder opens, allowing urine to flow out of the urethra.

Drugs are those substances that have a physiological and psychological effect on a person. Drugs are usually classified into different groups depending on the kind of reaction they cause in an individual. An example of a drug classification is that of hallucinogens. Hallucinogens are those drugs that cause the consumer to have symptoms similar to a hallucination where colors and the perception of objects are skewed. The consumption and possession of drugs is illegal in most countries across the world. These substances are considered to be controlled substances and there are agencies across the world responsible for drug control.

A urine test is a chemical analysis test conducted on a sample of urine eliminated from the person on whom the test is being conducted. The chemical analysis reveals the contents of the urine. This is used for diagnosing several medical conditions as well as for enforcing drug and alcohol legislation. Urine contains toxins and waste products that are eliminated from the body. When a person consumes drugs, the drugs eventually get filtered out of the body through the kidneys and out through the urine. This makes it possible for drug enforcement agencies to conduct a urine test for drugs. This test is easy to conduct and relatively difficult to manipulate. Most suspects are made to eliminate their bladder under supervision so that no contamination of evidence is possible. Once the sample is collected, it is sent to a laboratory where its chemical composition is compared with that of known drugs. This completes the process for a urine test for drugs. The results of the test could be used to apprehend or release a suspect.

The urine test for drugs is also used in sports where athletes may be using performance enhancing drugs. The testing method is essentially the same as that used for drug related offenses. Generally, it is recommended to conduct two urine tests in order to reduce the chance of testing errors.
