LFT Blood Test in Pregnancy

The LFT blood test is an abbreviation of the Liver Function Test. The liver is one of the most vital organs of the human body. The liver plays an important role in the basic functioning of the human body. This organ has several different lobes or areas that perform the important functions associated with the liver. There is no possibility for an individual to survive without a functioning liver. Liver replacement is the only way in which an individual with liver failure has any chance of survival. The LFT blood test is a test that is used on a sample of blood to analyze the functioning of the liver. The LFT blood test is conducted because there are several substances that are produced by different parts of the liver which end up being sent into the blood. Some of these are waste products while others are used for important body functions. The LFT blood test is therefore used as one of the major tests to determine the state of the liver.

The LFT blood test in pregnancy is conducted to check the health of the mother. During pregnancy, the mother’s body will undergo many different changes. The stresses and strains on the mother’s body will gradually increase as the fetus develops. The maintenance of the mother’s health is one of the main goals for any health care giver. It is therefore important to analyze the blood of the mother to make sure that she is well during this period. The LFT blood test may be conducted along with other blood tests to determine the mother’s health.

The LFT blood test in pregnancy is done to ensure that there is no condition that could jeopardize the mother or the fetus. In some cases, it may be used to check if the fetus has any health problems. Abnormal liver function during pregnancy raises the risk of all sorts of complications including that of a miscarriage. The LFT blood test during pregnancy is conducted in the same way as any other blood test would be conducted. Normally, it is safe to conduct the LFT blood test and other blood tests on a woman regularly during her pregnancy, however LFT blood test in the third trimester would require the doctor’s recommendation as this is a very crucial time. This will ensure that any health problems affecting the woman are detected immediately. Often the pregnancy itself creates symptoms that may mask the condition or affect a diagnosis which is why a blood test is essential.
