Urine Test For Pregnancy - Pregnancy Urine Tests, Home Pregnancy Tests

If you are experiencing symptoms of a pregnancy it would be best to do a pregnancy test at the earliest. Home pregnancy tests are easily available and are quite simple to follow. Home pregnancy tests are in fact very reliable and their accuracy is found to be up to 97%, just 2% less than blood tests for pregnancy in a lab. The main consideration when doing a urine test at home is that you follow the instructions meticulously, as in most cases the inconsistencies and variations in results boil down to improper testing methods. All home pregnancy kits use a urine test for pregnancy.

Whether it is a blood test or a urine test that you are considering, both tests work on the same principle. After conception or once a woman is pregnant there are certain pregnancy hormones released into body. These hormones are present in both the blood and the urine. Both urine and blood tests work by detecting these hormones. The specific hormone in concern here is the human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). These pregnancy hormones are responsible for stimulating the production of estrogen and progesterone to ensure normal fetal growth. While urine tests have the benefit that they can be conducted in the comfort of your home, with instant results they can not be done as early in the pregnancy as can blood tests.

Pregnancy urine tests can be conducted at home around two weeks after conception or a day after the missed period. If you are convinced that you are pregnant, because of some intuitive feeling or because of actual physical symptoms like a missed period, nausea, or breast tenderness, then you could repeat the test in a few days or after a week. Home urine tests simply comprise of a stick that when brought in contact with the urine detects any presence of the pregnancy hormone. Depending on the type of pregnancy kit the stick may either have to be immersed into a sample of urine collected in a container or held under a stream of urine.

Different tests may have variations in the length of time taken for the test results. The results generally involve a change in color, a line, or a marker or symbol such as a plus or minus. There are now also digital pregnancy tests that show the words – ‘not pregnant’ or ‘pregnant’.  no matter what test you choose to use, make sure that you read the instructions thoroughly and follow them meticulously to avoid botched and repeated tests.
