It is best for both partners to go in for a fertility test as soon as possible. It is only natural that there is a different fertility test for men and women; this is because a fertility test for women assesses factors like Follicle Stimulating Hormones (FSH) and ovarian reserve to gauge a woman’s fertility, whereas a fertility test for men measures sperm count and quality.

You can easily buy an over the counter fertility test for men from most pharmacies and stores, for around $30 or so. A fertility test for men at home requires a semen sample, through which sperm count can be checked within a period of 30 minutes or less. There are several different types of tests that are available today and while some only check for sperm count, others also give you an idea about motility. The tests that determine sperm count usually change color after analyzing the sample. Other tests come with microscope, through which men can get a better idea about sperm motility. However, the costs for such kits could be very high, perhaps even higher than a visit to a professional urologist.

While a home fertility test for men may be a good idea to check for fertility, it is important to consult a medical health care provider too. Early detection and treatment of male infertility can increase the chances of conception significantly.
